In‐field comparison between G.652 and G.655 optical fibres for polarisation‐based quantum key distribution

AbstractIntegration of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) in existing telecommunication infrastructure is crucial for the widespread adoption of this quantum technology that offers the distillation of unconditionally secure keys between users. The authors report a field trial between the Points of Presence placed in Treviso and in Venezia—Mestre, Italy, exploiting the QuKy commercial polarisation‐based QKD platforms developed by ThinkQuantum S.r.l. and two different standards of single‐mode optical fibres, that is, G.652 and G.655 as a quantum channel. In this field trial, several configurations were tested, including the co‐existence of classical and quantum signals over the same fibre, providing a direct comparison between the performances of the G.652 and G.655 fibre standards for QKD applications.

Study of Consumer Behaviour Towards Reliance Jio

The main objective of this project is to study the awareness of Reliance Jio amongst the customers compared to other telecom service providers. The satisfaction of customers is very important and with various products and services offered by the company its customers seem to be meaningless if it‟s not beneficiary to the customer from their end, so the second objective of this research is to study the customer satisfaction level of customers towards Reliance Jio and its services. To achieve success in long run a company needs a thorough study of its SWOT analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats). So the third objective of this research is to find the market potential and market penetration of Reliance Jio products and services. Reliance JioInfocomm Limited (Commonly called RJIL) is an Indian Internet access (commonly called „Broadband‟) and telecommunications company headquartered in Mumbai India‟s largest private sector company, is the first telecom operator to hold pan India Unified License. Reliance Jio is setting up a pan India telecom infrastructure to provide fourth generation LTE TDD high speed wireless internet and mobile communication services which was then launched in June 2015. Reliance Jio was founded in 2010 by MukeshAmbani. Reliance Jio offers mobile telephony and wireless broadband. Parent company of Reliance Jio is Reliance Industries and its subsidiary is LYF. To study the objectives discussed two types of sources were used to collect the data: - Primary and Secondary data. Primary data is also called as „First-hand data‟ or „Raw data‟. The primary data primarily means the unfiltered raw data collected by the researcher in the research process. In this project for the primary data a sample of 40 people were surveyed.

Capital is Dead. Long Live Capital! A Political Marxist Analysis of Digital Capitalism and Infrastructure

There is a growing literature suggesting that the digital economy is taking us out of capitalism. While this manifests most notably as a diagnosis of ‘digital feudalism’ or ‘techno-feudalism’, a differing voice is McKenzie Wark, who suggests we have entered an entirely new mode of production altogether: ‘vectoralism’. This paper historicises and theorises our current conjuncture in relation to the potential multiplicity of modes of production, and the materiality and imperialism of telecommunication infrastructures. We approve of Wark's development of new concepts, rather than turning to ahistorical regurgitations like ‘neo-feudalism’. However, we argue that the mode of production lens is not adequate to trace what we consider as more granular changes and that it risks packaging old wine in new bottles. For example, Wark's vectoral claims remain grounded in infrastructures such as undersea cables that are used by corporations and states as strategies of legal and economic imperialism reminiscent of the 19th century world order. Instead of examining this topic through a mode of production lens, we contend that these phenomena are better traced through a processual (rather than functional) and socially determined (rather than economically determined) method of historical materialism. In this regard, we adopt an approach closer to that of E. P. Thompson and Political Marxists, such as Brenner and Wood. To support our argument, we turn to both wider Marxist theory on the mode of production, which we then anchor in empirical works from contemporary critical infrastructure and communication studies.

THE INFLUENCE OF HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON THE JOB PERFORMANCE OF EMPLOYEES

This study focuses on the operations of human capital management (HCM), which include training and development, hiring and selection, and performance assessment. The research investigates the link between employee performance and the bottom line of the Indian telecom business. An examination of the ways in which the human resource policies and processes in India's telecom business influence employee production is our primary objective. In the research activity that was indicated before, surveys serve as the foundation. Participants in the research include individuals who are employed in the public sector as well as the commercial sector of India's telecommunication infrastructure. In the process of conducting interrogations, the primary objective is to collect data. We were able to make use of descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis by our sample consisted of 272 individuals. Taking everything into consideration, the findings lend credence to the notion that human resource management strategies are significant and essential in influencing employee performance. To achieve this goal, it is possible to combine the process of examining their previous work to establish trust and confidence with training and development programs that aim to expand their knowledge and capabilities. Employees can perform their jobs more effectively when they are able to execute all these tasks, either individually or in combination. There is a substantial correlation between human capital management methods and employee performance as well as the practices themselves.

KONTRIBUSI INFRASTRUKTUR DALAM MENDORONG PERTUMBUHAN EKONOMI INKLUSIF DI INDONESIA

Poverty, unemployment and inequality are still crucial problems in Indonesia, but they can be resolved through inclusive economic growth. Inclusive economic growth includes equity, equality of opportunity, and protection in market and employment transitions. One factor that can influence inclusive economic growth is infrastructure development. This research aims to analyze the influence of road, electricity, water and telecommunications infrastructure on inclusive economic growth in 34 provinces in Indonesia. Testing was carried out in 34 provinces in Indonesia in the 2015-2021 research year. This research uses a quantitative approach and panel data regression analysis using the Random Effect Model (REM) approach using Eviews 12 software.The results of this research show that road and electricity infrastructure have an insignificant and negative effect, and water and telecommunications infrastructure have a significant and positive effect on inclusive economic growth in Indonesia. Simultaneously, road, electricity, water and telecommunications infrastructure have a significant impact on inclusive economic growth. The implication of this research is that further research is needed regarding the influence of infrastructure on inclusive economic growth in Indonesia and the government needs to develop good quality infrastructure that is evenly distributed throughout all regions in Indonesia, so that inclusive economic growth can be achieved

MODEL IN MULTI-CLOUD TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS

Confronting combined cyber-attacks on collaborative DC microgrids using a communication protocols-based distributed unscented Kalman filter

The functioning of microgrids (MGs), which represent a contemporary arrangement of distribution networks featuring local control over generation and consumption, necessitates telecommunication infrastructure for transmitting and receiving measurement data and control commands. This reliance on telecommunication infrastructure renders MGs vulnerable to the threat of cyber-attacks. The existing methods for identifying cyber-attacks have been restricted solely to MG modeling. However, identifying and restoring a cyber-attack lack dependability and feasibility in a practical application without the concurrent modeling of MGs and their communication protocols. Therefore, this study aims to identify hybrid cyber-attacks (simultaneous false data injection and time delay attacks) to flow sensors and cyber links in direct flow MGs by considering the communication protocols between them, as well as extracting and reconstructing real measurement data. In order to achieve this objective, a generalized unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is introduced in conjunction with communication protocols incorporating an augmented state space to estimate the power of nonlinear loads. For this purpose, two measurement models have been developed to prevent data collisions and reduce the communication load. These models are based on the round-robin scheduling protocol and the try-once-discard weighted protocol. They aim to establish a specific order for data transfer from sensors to the filter. The article concludes by presenting a stability analysis of the protocol-based generalized UKF, which aims to ensure the convergence and limitation of the estimation error. The study presents simulation results on the resilient reconstruction of hybrid cyber-attacks involving unknown constant power loads and noise. The proposed approach utilizes the protocol-based generalized UKF and exhibits superior performance.

Uneven regional distribution earthquake danger zones and of cell towers and cells in Türkiye

Zoning potential danger derived from earthquakes is crucial for the development of policies dealing with the future of the cities. Determination of the potential danger zones regarding earthquakes with the telecommunication infrastructure is crucial for the development of policies dealing with the future of the cities. By utilizing the cartogram mapping technique, this paper aims to display potential earthquake danger zones with the uneven distribution of the cell towers and cells on a population cartogram for Türkiye. This is crucial for the cities regarding the future potential communication crises after disasters. Policymakers should provide and develop well-functioning communication networks (GSM networks) for the organization of aid and search and rescue operations since the collapse of the communication infrastructure renders all post-disaster processes insoluble and dysfunctional.

Examining the global influence of e-governance on corruption: a panel data analysis

This study analyzes the impact of e-governance on corruption using a panel dataset comprising 110 countries over the period from 2003 to 2021. The specific focus of the research is on the relationship between the E-government Development Index (EGDI) and its four components, namely the Online Service Index (OSI), Human Capital Index (HCI), Telecommunication Infrastructure Index (TII), and E-Participation Index (EPI), and their effects on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). To examine these relationships, the empirical analysis employs a fixed effect model, which is a suitable statistical approach for panel data analysis. The findings of the study reveal significant negative associations between the EGDI, OSI, HCI, and TII with corruption levels across countries worldwide. This implies that higher levels of e-government development, online service provision, human capital, and telecommunication infrastructure are associated with lower corruption perceptions. However, the EPI does not demonstrate a statistically significant relationship with the CPI. Based on these results, the paper provides recommendations for governments to prioritize two key areas. Firstly, governments should invest in the development of e-government infrastructure to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public administration, thereby reducing corruption. Secondly, initiatives aimed at enhancing public awareness and understanding of e-governance should be prioritized, as they contribute to increased citizen engagement and participation, which can ultimately lead to improved governance practices and reduced corruption levels.

Building Tana Toraja Towards a Smart City

Tana Toraja is one of the districts located in the northern part of South Sulawesi. Currently, the Tana Toraja District plans to build at least 31 4G cellular network towers in 10 sub-districts to equalize the development of telecommunication infrastructure in the area. Therefore, this research is conducted to provide recommendations to the Tana Toraja District Government regarding the optimization of village development policies using information and communication technology approaches and to encourage the implementation of digital empowerment in public services. The results of this study indicate that the approach that can be used by the Tana Toraja District Government in building towards a smart city includes: developing infrastructure that can support smooth internet connectivity throughout the area and developing public services towards digitalization, such as e-Administration, e-Transportation, e-Health, e-Money, and e-Report. However, the increasing offering of technology-based public services to be developed in the Tana Toraja District will pose significant challenges, particularly in terms of human resources, financing, and data security.

Socio-Economic Infrastructure and Standard of Living in Nigeria

This study investigated the effect of socio-economic infrastructure on the standard of living in Nigeria for the period 1981–2021. The study used per capita income as a proxy for standard of living, while investments in health, education, telecommunications, and electric power supply were used as infrastructure. The exchange rate entered the model as a control variable. Annual time series data were obtained from secondary sources including the CBN annual statistical bulletin, and World Bank development indicators. The Eview10 Statistical Software was employed to analyze the data empirically. Due to the stationarity condition of the time series data, the study adopted the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model to ascertain its objectives. The study revealed that, in the short run, the coefficient of electric power supply has a positive effect on standard of living and is significant, while in the long run, the coefficient of telecommunication infrastructure has a positive influence on standard of living and is significant. The study concludes that the place of power supply and communication cannot be undermined as Nigeria plans for sustainable economic growth and development. Therefore, it was recommended that there be a deliberate attempt to improve the quality of health care and education. Secondly, the federal government should see the provision of electric power and the reduction in airtime and internet data as the main drivers of the standard of living in Nigeria.

Governance, debt service, information technology and access to electricity in Africa

AbstractThe study investigates the role of governance (i.e., ‘voice and accountability,’ political stability/no violence, regulatory quality, government effectiveness, corruption‐control and the rule of law) in the incidence of short‐term debt services on infrastructure development in the perspective of telecommunication infrastructure and access to electricity. The focus of the study is on 52 African countries for the period 2002–2021. The generalised method of moments is employed as estimation strategy and the following findings are established. Debt service has a negative unconditional effect on access to electricity and telecommunication infrastructure. Governance dynamics moderate the negative effect of debt service on infrastructure dynamics. Effective moderation is from regulatory quality and corruption‐control for access to electricity and from government effectiveness, regulatory quality, corruption‐control and rule of law, for telecommunication infrastructure. Policy implications are discussed.

The impact of transportation investment, road transportation and telecommunications on FDI in Latin America 2008-2021

In this paper, we examine the effects of logistic infrastructures as determinants of foreign investment in Latin America and the Caribbean from 2008 to 2021. We analyze the data using panel data and a feasible generalized least squares model. Our findings indicate that FDI tends to flow to countries with adequate transport and telecommunications infrastructure, although the availability of an electricity grid suitable for the needs of investors is the most significant factor in Latin America. We also determined that there is a limit beyond which investment in transportation infrastructure does not contribute to attracting foreign investment. Furthermore, our analysis shows that the region attracts FDI due to new market opportunities and lower production costs. We also find that the economic opening in Latin America discourages investment by neighboring investors, highlighting the importance of policies that balance foreign capital attraction with respect to international agreements with neighboring countries.

Investments in basic public infrastructure and their effects on economic growth in a developing country: The case of Cameroon

The literature review conducted in this study indicates that there is no unanimity regarding the definition of infrastructure and its impact on growth. While some economists argue that focusing on logistical infrastructure, such as transportation, telecommunications, water, and energy, would be beneficial for governments, others emphasise the importance of social infrastructure, such as health and education. Given the diverse range of opinions, further investigation is required, particularly in the context of Cameroon's infrastructure. The objective of this article is to evaluate the impact of investing in fundamental public infrastructure on economic growth in Cameroon. The study compares the elasticities of various infrastructure types on growth and private investment. With data from WDI 2020, a generalized method of moments is utilised, revealing that the energy sector has the highest contribution. In the majority of studies relating to infrastructure; many are those who are limited to overall infrastructures without however specifying them. Furthermore, the particularity of our study is that we are not interested in the stock of infrastructure, but rather in the amount of investment actually allocated. We are therefore trying to jointly see their repercussions on economic growth and the behaviour of private investments, something which had not yet been done in Cameroon to our knowledge. Therefore we find that the impacts of investments actually allocated do not have the same effects on the growth and behaviour of private investments; for example, everything happens as if there is a crowding out effect between the telecommunications sector and the behaviour of private investments. Macroeconomic performance in Cameroon is positively influenced by investment in road and telecommunications infrastructure. A 1% increase in investment in this sector leads to a 0.0536% boost in economic growth and a 0.329% increase in the private sector. Compared to other forms of infrastructure investment, this sector has a strong impact on the country's economic development. These results allow on the one hand to see the infrastructures which contribute the most to economic growth in a country like Cameroon which is still struggling to take off in its development process. But they will also further densify the public-private partnership which is very important for the quantity but also the quality of infrastructure.

The Public Value of E-government: A Qualitative Study from the Perspective of Private-Sector Professionals in Morocco

This paper focuses on assessing the public value of e-government in Morocco, using Delone and Mclean's (2016) Information Systems (IS) success model as a reference framework. The methodology is based on a qualitative exploratory study involving 13 companies, including law firms, architecture firms, and real estate developers firms. An interview guide was designed to collect data, which were analyzed using Nvivo Qsr 12 software. The analysis identified six variables, namely: "Human Capital, Telecommunication Infrastructure, Willingness to Use, State Strategy, Continuous Education, and Culture," which were added to the seven predetermined variables of the Delone and Mclean (2016) IS Success Model. This research outlines practical implications that are essential for the long-term success of e-government initiatives in Morocco. These include investing in skills development, effectively communicating the benefits of e-government, promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors, recognizing organizational culture, putting mechanisms in place to measure performance and user satisfaction, as well as making adjustments to organizational processes and rigorously managing data security. On a political level, these adjustments underline the importance of a coherent government strategy, which focuses on strengthening human capital and telecommunications infrastructures, in order to promote a successful digital transformation and achieve the objectives of trust, transparency, and efficiency in public services.

Technology married to good governance and diversity: Explaining e-participation preparedness in government

Enabling citizen participation using governmental online platforms, namely, e-participation, has emerged as an innovative mode of open and collaborative governance. Previous studies have emphasized technological conditions to explain the varying availability of e-participation tools on government websites among countries. However, the United Nations' E-Participation Index has identified a mismatch between technological infrastructure development and e-participation preparedness in government. To address this gap, this study used an integrative framework that highlights social and institutional aspects in addition to technological conditions to build a rigorous predictive statistical model. We conducted principal component analysis on five datasets spanning a period of 16 years, covering 181 countries. The results, cross-validated through regression analysis, indicate that good governance dispositions, supported by well-established telecommunication infrastructure, and demographic diversity in terms of race, religion, and language largely predict government behavior in preparing for e-participation. This finding offers valuable insights into the dynamic interaction among government, technology, and society in open governance. This study also provides fresh perspectives for policymakers to consider.
